The Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club
had a successful weekend at the Ontario Track and Field
Championships in Windsor. The team took 16 athletes, who combined
for a total of four medals and 23 top ten performances at the
championships. The athletes who placed in the top six in their
events are listed below.
Jordan Banninga was first place in the Junior Mens Javelin, with a
best throw of 57.34m. Also coming in first was Jenn Withers in the
Midget Girls Javelin, with a personal best throw of 28.51m. Emily
King came fourth in the same event, with a throw of 25.94m. Lydia
Willemse ran the Junior Womens 800m in a time of 2:21.18, earning
second place in the event. Marty Withers was also second in his
event, the Senior Mens Javelin, with a best throw of 51.50m.
Rachel Korasec was fifth in the Bantam Girls 800m and 1500m races,
in times of 2:34.85 and 5:24.47 respectively. Also coming in fifth
were Kim VanKempen in the Juvenile Girls 100m with a time of 12.86,
Andrew Douglas in the Midget Boys 3000m in a time of 9:58.97, and
Andy Ysebaert in the Junior Mens Shot Put with a throw of 14.29m.
Jason McKechnie was fifth in the Juvenile Boys 300m hurdles, with a
time of 41.77, as well as coming sixth in the 110m hurdles with a
time of 16.08. David Moore also earned both a fifth and a sixth
place finish at the championships, coming fifth in the Juvenile Boys
1500m race in a time of 4:12.77, and finishing sixth in the 800m in
a time of 2:01.51. In the Bantam Boys division, Matt Morden earned
sixth place in both the 400m and 800m races, with times of 1:05.64
and 2:29.19 respectively. |
