Pan Ams Final Day- Drouin 4th in heptathlon
Jillian Drouin ended the Pan Ams on a high note, both personally and
for Sarnia Athletics Southwest, on the last day of the Pan Am Junior
Track and Field Championships in Windsor. Sitting in second after
day one in the heptathlon standings, Jillian started day two with a
personal best of 5.30 metres in the long jump; unfortunately many of
her competition jumped even further to drop Jillian back in the hept
standings.
Jillian turned in a personal best
in the sixth and second last event of the competiton, the javelin,
tossing the spear 32.45 metres. Jillian entered the final event
of her gruelling two day event, the 800 metres, fourth in the over
standings. Two minutes and 43.73 seconds later, Jillian had
maintained her fourth place finish.
Jillian and her Sarnia Athletics Southwest coaches Bob Newman and
Joel Skinner, in addition to her university coach, Enoch Borozinski,
from Syracuse University, were very pleased to find out that Jillian
had set a new personal best of 4811 points, bettering her former
mark by close to 200 points. Setting a personal best is always
great but setting a best performance in a pressure-filled
international competition like Jillian did is very significant!
In total Jillian had personal bests in five out of seven events in
her competition!!
Well done Jillian!!
