Kohlmeier Sisters 1st and 2nd
at Largest High School Meet in Michigan
PORTAGE, MICHIGAN— Amy and Alyson
Kohlmeier of the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track Club
finished first and second overall at the Portage
Invitational, the largest high school-aged meet in the
state of Michigan with 3700 competitors.
Amy completed the 5 km course just one second off
the long time course record, stopping the clock at
17:32.
The time represents the fastest time in North America
this season by a high schooler.
Alyson Kohlmeier was a close second in 17:49,
which was a huge improvement of 60 seconds over her
performance at the meet in 2001 and one of the top 10
time on the often raced course.
Also representing the local Sarnia club were
Andrea Brouwer (19:59), Chesley Baxter (20:36), Amanda
Ayers (20:40), and 9th grade student, Kassie
Joy (21:07).
Doug Currie of the Petrolia Track
and Field Club placed 2nd overall, running at
cross-country personal best of 15:42 for the 5 km
distance.
Russell Christie also raced well, finishing in a
time of 16:18.
Two members of the Sarnia Athletics Southwest
Club also competed:
Mike Wodzinski (18:03) and Andre Maddison
(19:01).
