Coach’s Comments-
"Coming into nationals I hoped our team could score 90
points. I figured based on results from past years that if we
could score in this range we would be in the hunt for a team
medal. We ended up scoring 75 points so the girls exceeded my
expectations. Ottawa put together an exceptional team
performance to score such a low total, so our girls have nothing
to be disappointed about. Ottawa has been our strongest rival
over the past years, so I’m not surprised by their performance."
"Aly Kohlmeier has continued her steady progression into one
of the nation’s top junior aged (under 20 years) runners. Last
year Aly was 4th at nationals, and based on her early
season performances and fitness level coming into nationals, I
was confident she would have a good chance of repeating her
success of last year."
"Amy Kohlmeier had an off day and by her standards a
disappointing race. Like any successful athlete she was very
disappointed with her result. Amy has the heart of a champion,
so its not surprising that she was upset. I know that she will
rebound from this race, learn from the experience and be better
in the future because of it."
"Claire Percival really stepped up in this race for us this
year. Last year Claire was back in the 50's at nationals, so for
her to finish 14th this year is a tribute to her hard
work and to how much she has improved in the past year."
"Kara Wark ran like a seasoned veteran despite this being her
first time a national level meet. Kara ran a smart and composed
race for a 9th grader. I’m happy that Kara got her
first experience of racing at nationals."
"Chelsey Baxter showed this weekend her return to full
fitness is also compete. It was great to have Chelsey return to
the national level after a disappointing 2001 season that was
filled with injuries and frustrations."
"Mike Mott had a great finish to an excellent cross country
season. Coming in we knew it was going to be a big challenge
with the additional 2km to his usual racing distance but he did
great. Mike has really taken this performances to a new level
this cross country season and I sure this new found strength and
endurance will serve him well in the upcoming track season."
