Mullen wins two bronze

St. Patrick's High School graduate Maggie Mullen was a double bronze medalist at the Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships held last weekend in Abbotsford, B. C.
One of seven members of Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club competing at the championships, Mullen threw the javelin 44.08 metres and the shot put 13.67 metres to place third in both events.
Mullen, who heads to Ohio State University in September on a athletic scholarship, also placed sixth in the discus.
Fellow St. Pat's graduate Derek Drouin, who heads to Indiana University in the fall on a scholarship, came home with a silver medal in the high jump after leaping 2.10m. He also placed seventh in the 110m hurdles.
Northern Graduate Casey Garbaty won bronze in the men's javelin with a throw of 60.53m. Garbaty is off to University at Buffalo in September, also on a scholarship.
Emily King made it into the top 10 in the javelin with a throw of 37.71m, good for eight place overall. Shaun Bisson finished 14th in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:05.0, while Haley Cadwallader was seventh in the women's 2000m steeplechase in a time of 7:21.0. Matt Reddy was 19th in preliminaries for the men's 400m with a time of 50.55 sec.
