At the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships, Claire
Percival of Sarnia Athletics Southwest placed 2nd in the 2000m
steeplechase. Claire's time of 7:18.02 established a new Ontario
Junior (Under 20 years of age) Record beating the previous best
mark of 7:20.78 . Bevin
Kennelly, of British Columbia, set a new Championship record in
the event. Bevin's performance of 7 minutes and 12.51 seconds
lowered the old mark of 7:19.75, which she set at last year's
Championships. Claire also finished ahead of the old record, with
her second place performance.
Claire also placed 4th in the 3000 metres in
10:28.08 on Day 1 of the competition. Maggie Lynch and Andy
Ysebaert both finished 9th overall in their respective events.
Maggie ran 64.88 in the 400m Hurdles to just miss qualifying for
Sunday's final. This time is just off Maggie's personal best of
64.66. Andy represented the club in the shot put and heaved a best
of 12.19m.
