WINDSOR — Several Sarnia area athletes turned in outstanding performances at the Canadian Track and Field Championships held at Alumni Field at the University of Windsor.

This meet was also the trials for the Beijing Olympics.

Hilary Stellingwerff led the entire race as she defended her 1500 metre championship with a time of 4:08.56.

Claire Percival took the lead with 800 metres to go and held on to win the gold medal in the women's 3000 metre steeplechase in a personal best time of 10:23.88.

In the paralympics side of the meet, Rob Hughes broke his own Canadian record in the F33 men's shot put with a put of 8.82 metres.

Jillian Drouin picked up two bronze medals. She was third in the heptathlon with 5677 points and third in the high jump at 1.82m.

Other top eight placings included a fourth place finish by Derek Drouin in the men's high jump with a personal best of 2.11 metres. Maggie Mullen was sixth in the women's javelin with a throw of 44.90 metres and eighth in the women's shot put with a put of 12.92m. Dayna Maaten finished seventh in the women's pole vault with a 3.70 metre jump.
