2003 Club News
June 25, 2003 Ottawa – Fifty-five of Canada’s finest youth
athletes (aged 15-17 as of December 31, 2003) have been named to the national
team which will represent Canada at the upcoming IAAF World Youth Championships
taking place in Sherbrooke, Quebec, July 9-13.
“The World Youth Championships provide a great opportunity for young Canadian
athletes to have their first exposure to international track and field,” says
Richard Crevier, head coach of the Canadian team competing in Sherbrooke. “In a
way, what we witness in Sherbrooke will be the building of our future national
teams. A lot of these kids will be our next crop of Olympians. This is a
world class competition and our athletes will need to strive to be at their
best.”
The following highly-ranked athletes from Sarnia Athletics Southwest have
qualified for the team according to Athletics Canada’s selection criteria and
have been approved for selection to the team by the association’s selection
committee. Athletics Canada congratulates each team member and looks forward to
their participation on the world youth team in two weeks.
