At the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Grosseto, Italy, Alyson Kohlmeier was eighth in her heat of the 1500m, with a time of 4:28.58. To qualify for the final the athletes had to finish top four in their heat, or have one of the next four fastest times. Kohlmeier's race went out very conservatively, with the leaders going through the 800 meter mark in a slow 2:30. The heat was won by Anna Alminova of Russia, in a time of 4:24.43, well above Kohlmeier's personal best of 4:20.64. This tactical approach resulted in many highly ranked athletes failing to make the final, with only four qualifying from Kohmeier's heat; the other eight girls in the final all came from the second heat. Alyson will now end her season early in order to prepare for the upcoming cross country season at the University of Michigan.

Claire Percival was also eighth in her heat of the 3000m Steeplechase, in a personal best time of 11:02.86, six seconds faster than her previous best. Overall this placed her 27out of 45 competitors. This is the first time ever that the females have raced the steeplechase at the World Junior Championships. This was also Percival's first time competing on the world stage, she has two more years in this age group. This past spring, Claire was the first ever OFSAA female steeplechase champion. Percival will compete in Saskatoon this coming weekend at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships, at which she finished second last year in the steeplechase.
