Jessica Crate Qualifies for Canada
Summer Games!
Members of the Sarnia Athletics
Southwest Track & Field Club recently traveled to Ottawa to compete
in the Ontario Senior and Canada Summer Games Trials held at the
Terry Fox Facility.
In the Canada Games Trials for athletes
23 years and under, Jessica Crate competed in the 10000m event,
finishing first in a time of 36:34. Crate’s performance qualifies
her for Team Ontario which will compete in the Canada Summer Games
in August in Regina. In the field events, Brad Huey high-jumped his
way to a well deserved third place finish, while Rob Nickels took
home the bronze in the triple jump and also had a good performance
in the Long Jump. Jordan Banninga finished third in the javelin
and Andy Ysebaert brought home a bronze in the shot put.
The Ontario Senior Category also
garnered top performances for the local club, with Claire Percival
winning the gold in the 2000m Steeplechase in a personal best time.
Lydia Willemse finished in the fourth position in the 1500m.
Willemse also doubled in the 800m run to finish sixth overall.
Alyson Kohlmeier finished fourth in the 800m.
