2004 Results

Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and
Field Club sent 6 athletes to the Canadian Junior Track and Field
Championships and all finished in the top 8 in their respective
events.
Leading the way were Lydia Willemse
and Jordan Banninga with bronze medals. Lydia was third in the
2000m steeplechase in a time of 7:09.67 which is a new Ontario
Junior record. Lydia was also selected to the National Junior
Team that is competing in Scotland later this month. Jordan was
third in the javelin (800g) with a personal best throw of 58.48m
Jillian Drouin made her debut in the
heptathlon with a fifth place finish and a point total of 4144.
Jillian was in contention for a medal throughout out the 2 day
event. Also finishing fifth was Claire Percival in the
steeplechase. Claire fell going over a barrier early in the race
but continued on to finish fifth.
Andy Ysebaert was seventh in the
shot put (6 kg) with a toss of 14.24m. Rob Nickels was eighth in
both the long and triple jumps with distances of 6.58m and 13.56m
respectively.
Russell Christie of the Petrolia
Track and Field Club finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase in a
time of 9:51.84. Jenni Vanos also competed for Petrolia in the
400m hurdles but she fell on a hurdle and finished well back.
Next year's meet will be in Montreal
and it will likely be the qualifier for the Pan Am Juniors which
will be held in Windsor in early August of 2005.
