2006 Club News

Lambton County athletes were significant performers in their teams' success at various conference track and field meets on the weekend.

 

At Madison, Wisconsin, Sophomore Alyson Kohlmeier (St. Pat's) moved to #3 all-time indoors in Canada as she won the Big Ten 5000m race in a time of 15:58.61.  Alyson was also a member of Michigan's gold medal distance medley relay team.  The Wolverines won their fourth indoor championship in the past five years.

At the same meet, Junior Sarah Nelson (Northern) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.86m helping Minnesota to a third place finish behind Michigan and Illinois.

At Windsor, Junior Laura Van Dam (Northern) finished second in the shot put with a throw of 12.58m as she helped the Windsor Lancers to their 12th OUA championship in the last 16 years.  Junior Dayna Maaten (Northern) had a personal best and Canadian standard 3.60m in the pole vault to add points to a very powerful Windsor team.  The Lancers also won their 15th men's title in 16 years.  Both Windsor teams are ranked number 1 in Canada.  Dayna and Laura will travel to Saskatoon in two weeks for the CIS championships.

Senior Ryan O'Hagan (Northern) ran the second leg of Western's 4 x 800m relay team helping the Mustangs to the bronze medal in that event.  Senior Dave Keeley (Northern) ran the second leg for the Mustangs 4 x 400m relay as they won the silver medal behind Windsor.  Western finished second to the Lancers in both the men's and women's divisions.  Both relay teams have qualified for the CI's as well.

Senior Brae-Anne McArthur (Northern) overcame some back problems to get the silver medal in the women's pentathlon with 3414 points helping the Guelph Gryphons to a fourth place finish in the OUA.  Brae-Anne also tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.59m.  Brae-Anne will compete in both events at the CIS meet as she achieved the high jump standard with her jump of 1.72m in the pentathlon.  Sophomore Jenni Vanos (North Lambton) was a member of Guelph's 4 x 800m relay team that won the bronze.

Freshman Rob Nickels (St. Clair) finished fifth for Tulsa in the Conference USA meet with a distance of 6.82m  in the long jump, and earned a personal-best, third-place mark on Tulsa's record books and a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.51m.

Senior Mike Marsh (North Lambton/Northern) finished sixth and eighth respectively in the shot put and weight throw for Central Michigan in the Mid-America Conference championships.
