Brittany Lewis's phenomenal
season on the track just got even more incredible.
The Sarnia Athletics Southwest star found out this week that she has been
chosen to the Canadian team which will compete at the 2009 World Youth
Championships in Bressanone, Italy.
She was selected to the national squad largely on the basis of her
performance at the Ontario Junior Championships in London, a couple of weeks
ago, where she won the 400m and 400m hurdles.
Lewis was also a double-gold medallist at this year's OFSAA meet, winning the
400m and 300m hurdles in the junior girls division. At the Ontario Jrs., she
defeated the OFSAA senior champion in both of her victories.
"She has not been defeated on the track in any event all season long," said
her high school coach, St. Clair's Scott Burns. "Her times now rank her second
in Canada among athletes 19-and-under, in both the 400m and the 400 metre
hurdles. Not bad for a girl who just turned 16."
Lewis will compete in the 400m at the World Youth Championships, the top
international track and field competition for 16-17-year-olds.
She departs on July 3 for the meet which will be held, July 8 to 12.
